Linux Kernel, Reply Header Flaw, CVE-2022-0812 (Medium) – Just Updated -DC-Oct2026-3342

Listen to this Post

CVE-2022-0812 involves a security vulnerability in the Linux kernel where specific reply-header sites were previously unchecked due to incomplete semantic patch rules in static analysis tools.
In CVEhound version 1.7.0, the detection mechanism has been significantly updated to ensure comprehensive coverage of both the primary and reply-header vulnerability sites.
Previously, the second rule associated with this CVE lacked starred lines and functional dependencies, causing it to fail in reporting or adding its function name to the underlying grep queries.
Consequently, half of the CVE instances went entirely unchecked during automated static analysis scans, leading to potential blind spots in kernel security assessments.
With the latest update, CVEhound integrates native git support via subcommands like scan and diff, enabling direct object database queries without requiring full checkouts.
The tool utilizes persistent batch pipes and enhanced sandboxing by default to secure the runtime environment during static analysis execution.
Furthermore, spatch execution is optimized using warm servers and caching mechanisms to drastically reduce parse times while maintaining byte-identical report accuracy across kernel revisions.
Proper identification of backports and fix commits ensures that regressions or bad upstream backports are accurately flagged during repository scans.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Linux Kernel
Version: Version 1.7.0
Vulnerability: Reply Header Flaw
Severity: Medium Risk
Date: October 2026

Prediction: Patched Upstream Already

What Undercode Say:

Bash commands and codes related to the blog

`cvehound scan –rev HEAD`

`cvehound diff A..B –patch file`

`cvehound bisect –cve CVE-2022-0812 A..B`

`pip install ‘cvehound[bash]’`

Exploit (Educational Purposes!):

The vulnerability can be tested by inspecting unpatched reply-header handling paths where incorrect parsing logic allows malformed network headers to bypass validation checks, leading to potential memory corruption or information disclosure vectors in server environments.

Protection: from this CVE

Update CVEhound to version 1.7.0 or later, apply upstream kernel patches addressing CVE-2022-0812, ensure strict sandboxing is enabled during static analysis, and verify proper backport tracking using version diff tools.

Impact:

Unpatched systems running vulnerable Linux kernel versions risk exploitation via crafted network replies, potentially allowing unauthorized access, denial of service, or escalation of privileges through neglected code paths.
