How the CVE Works
In the Linux kernel’s `mwifiex` Wi-Fi driver, a flaw occurs when the system operates in concurrent Station (STA) and Access Point (AP) mode with host MLME enabled. The firmware incorrectly forwards disassociation and deauthentication frames, intended for the AP interface when a client disconnects, to the STA interface. The STA interface then processes these frames as if they were sent from its connected Access Point, triggering a disconnect event on the wrong interface. This leads to kernel warnings from `cfg80211_process_disassoc` as the MLME layer receives an unexpected and invalid disassociation notification for the STA link, potentially causing unnecessary connection drops and system instability.

What Undercode Say:
Analytics
dmesg | grep "WARNING.cfg80211_process_disassoc" journalctl --since="1 hour ago" | grep mwifiex cat /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy/stations//last_signal
// Code snippet from the patch validating frame source
if (ether_addr_equal(mgmt->sa, current_bssid)) {
process_frame(frame);
} else {
discard_frame(frame);
}
