The CVE-2025-XXXXX vulnerability is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) flaw within the Web Content translation feature of Liferay Portal and Liferay DXP. The vulnerability exists because the application fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input in rich text fields during the content translation process. An attacker can create or edit a web content and inject malicious JavaScript or HTML code into any rich text field. When this translated content is saved and subsequently viewed by other users, the malicious script is executed in the victim’s browser context. This allows the attacker to perform actions on behalf of the authenticated user, potentially leading to session hijacking, defacement, or data theft. The attack is persistent, meaning the payload is stored on the server and impacts every user who views the compromised web content.
