CVE-2025-54068 is a critical code injection vulnerability affecting Laravel Livewire version 3 frameworks.
The security flaw resides specifically within the component hydration and property update handling mechanism.
When an incoming HTTP request triggers updates on a Livewire component, the application processes component states.
The framework’s internal method named hydrateForUpdate handles these incoming requests and property updates.
Historically, this method passed synthetic tuple data straight into the generic hydration functions without validation.
Attackers can exploit this improper control of code generation, categorized under CWE-94, to inject payloads.
By supplying a specially crafted synthetic tuple, an adversary can manipulate the property update request structure.
This manipulation allows the attacker to trick the server into instantiating arbitrary PHP object classes.
Consequently, during the deserialization-like hydration process, unwanted code or classes get executed remotely.
No authentication or user interaction is required from the application users to trigger this execution path.
An unauthenticated remote attacker can therefore achieve full Remote Code Execution on the hosting server.
The vulnerability is entirely unique to the version 3 branch of Laravel Livewire and leaves prior versions safe.
The issue was officially disclosed and addressed on July 17, 2025, with the release of version 3.6.4.
Security researchers from Synacktiv discovered and analyzed the vulnerability mechanics in detail.
Exploitation toolsets like Livepyre were developed and released publicly to demonstrate the attack vector.
Threat actors quickly weaponized this flaw, scanning thousands of public endpoints for vulnerable targets.
Observed real-world exploitation campaigns deployed cryptominers and malicious web shells into public directories.
CISA subsequently added CVE-2025-54068 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog due to severe threat levels.
Proper input validation and restricting allowed synthesizers during updates were introduced as the core fix.
Upgrading to Livewire version 3.6.4 or later completely closes the code injection pathway on servers.
Vulnerable code instances typically expose complex property types within mounted components incorrectly.
Without strict checks on synthetic tuples, attackers bypass authentication bounds effortlessly.
Network packets carrying malicious JSON payloads target the livewire update endpoint directly.
The server unpacks the payload, triggering the vulnerable synthesizer instantiation routine.
Arbitrary system commands are then executed under the privileges of the web server process user.
Developers must audit all application dependencies to ensure no outdated Livewire packages remain exposed.
Automated scanners and intrusion detection systems look for anomalous child process spawns to spot breaches.
Mitigation requires immediate upgrading since workarounds are unavailable for this specific flaw.
Comprehensive vulnerability management practices remain vital to prevent catastrophic system compromises.

Protection:
Upgrade Laravel Livewire to version 3.6.4 or any later secure release immediately.
Implement strict web application firewall (WAF) rules to inspect and block malformed synthetic tuple payloads in JSON requests.
Audit all application components and dependencies regularly for known vulnerability markers.
Impact:
Complete unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE) on the underlying server architecture.
Full compromise of data confidentiality, integrity, and system availability.
Deployment of persistent web shells, backdoors, and unauthorized cryptocurrency miners.
