JHipster, Privilege Escalation, CVE-2025-XXXX (High)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works:

JHipster versions before 8.9.0 fail to properly validate user roles during authentication. When a standard user logs in, the `/api/account` endpoint returns an `authorities` parameter with the value ROLE_USER. An attacker can intercept this response, modify the `authorities` parameter to ROLE_ADMIN, and escalate privileges to gain administrative access. This manipulation bypasses server-side role checks, allowing unauthorized access to admin functionalities.
