How the CVE Works
CVE-2025-5451 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Ivanti Connect Secure (prior to v22.7R2.8) and Ivanti Policy Secure (prior to v22.7R1.5). An authenticated remote attacker with admin privileges can exploit this flaw by sending a crafted request that overflows a fixed-size buffer in the application’s stack memory. This corrupts adjacent memory regions, leading to a denial of service (crash) or potential arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability stems from improper bounds checking when processing input data, allowing an attacker to overwrite critical stack structures like return addresses.
