The CVE-2025-36088 vulnerability is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw within the web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the IBM TS4500 Tape Library. The issue stems from insufficient sanitization and validation of user-supplied input before it is rendered in the application’s output. An authenticated attacker can inject malicious JavaScript code into specific fields or parameters handled by the GUI. When another authenticated user, such as an administrator, later accesses the compromised section of the interface, the embedded script executes automatically within their browser session. This execution occurs in the context of the trusted application domain, allowing the attacker’s code to perform actions on behalf of the victim. Consequently, the script can steal session cookies, authentication tokens, or other sensitive credentials, potentially leading to full session hijack and unauthorized access to the tape library management functions.
