Huawei Smartphones, Configuration Defect, CVE-2025-64315 (MEDIUM)

Listen to this Post

The vulnerability CVE-2025-64315 is a configuration defect within the file management module of Huawei’s EMUI skin on Android. This flaw stems from improper access control settings for certain app-specific data directories or inter-process communication (IPC) endpoints managed by the system module. The misconfiguration fails to adequately enforce sandboxing policies, allowing one application with local user privileges to access or modify data belonging to another application without proper authorization. Typically, this occurs when a file or directory is created with overly permissive read/write flags (e.g., world-readable or world-writable) or when a Binder service interface does not verify the caller’s identity or permissions before performing sensitive operations. An attacker could craft a malicious, non-privileged app that, once installed and executed by the victim, exploits these weak permissions. By accessing the misconfigured paths or interfaces, the attacker’s app can read confidential information (like cached files) or alter application data, impacting both the confidentiality and integrity of the targeted app’s data within the device’s local scope.
Platform: Huawei Smartphones EMUI
Version: 13.0 14.0
Vulnerability : Configuration Defect
Severity: Medium
Date: 2025-11-27

Prediction: 2025-12-18 Patch

What Undercode Say:

find /data/data/ -type d -perm -o=w 2>/dev/null
stat -c "%a %n" /data/app/
cat /proc/$(pidof com.huawei.filemanager)/maps

How Exploit:

A malicious app uses the `Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()` API or direct file system calls to traverse to `/data/data//` subdirectories with weak permissions. It then executes `FileInputStream.read()` or `FileOutputStream.write()` operations on files it should not access, exfiltrating or corrupting user data.

Protection from this CVE:

Apply Huawei security update. Review app file permissions. Use Context.MODE_PRIVATE. Enforce SELinux policies.

Impact:

Local data compromise. App data tampering. No system-wide privilege escalation.
