How the CVE-2025-66328 Works:
This vulnerability is a multi-threaded race condition within a specific network management module in Huawei software. The flaw exists in code that manages critical network state or configuration data structures shared across multiple execution threads. When two or more threads attempt to read from and write to the same shared resource (like a memory pointer, state flag, or configuration table) simultaneously without proper synchronization (e.g., mutex locks), the program enters an undefined state. This concurrent, unsafe access can lead to a null pointer dereference, a double-free condition, or corruption of critical data. The inconsistent state causes the management process to crash or hang, leading to a denial of service (DoS) condition that disrupts network availability. Exploitation does not require special privileges but relies on precise timing to win the race, making successful attacks non-deterministic but feasible.

What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
$ ps aux | grep [bash]etwork_manager $ strace -p <PID> -f 2>&1 | grep -A5 -B5 "futex"
// Simplified race condition concept
int global_ptr = NULL;
pthread_t thread1, thread2;
void thread_func(void arg) {
if (global_ptr) { // Race: Thread 1 may pass this check
free(global_ptr); // Then Thread 2 frees it here
global_ptr = NULL;
}
return NULL;
}
// Concurrent execution can cause double-free.
How Exploit:
An attacker would send a high volume of concurrent management requests or packets to the target module. These requests are designed to trigger code paths that operate on the same vulnerable shared resource. By flooding the service, the attacker increases the probability that two threads will access the critical section at the same moment, winning the race condition and triggering a process crash, leading to a denial of service.
Protection from this CVE:
Apply vendor security update. Implement proper synchronization primitives (mutexes, semaphores). Use thread-safe design patterns. Conduct code audits for race conditions.
Impact:
Denial of Service, network management disruption, system instability.
