Huawei, DoS, CVE-2025-58316 (critical)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-58316 vulnerability resides in Huawei’s video-related system service module, where improper input validation and resource handling can lead to denial of service. Specifically, when processing video data streams—such as H.264 or H.265 encoded packets—the service fails to adequately check bounds or manage memory allocation. An attacker can exploit this by sending crafted video packets or malformed RTSP requests to the service interface. This triggers a heap buffer overflow or causes excessive resource consumption, such as CPU or memory exhaustion. The service may enter an infinite loop or crash due to a segmentation fault, abruptly terminating video processing. This vulnerability is remotely exploitable if the service is network-accessible, often via ports like 554/TCP for RTSP. The lack of error handling in video frame parsing allows malicious inputs to destabilize the service module. Consequently, the availability of video functionalities—like streaming, playback, or recording—is compromised. The service crash can also impact dependent system applications, leading to broader system instability. Fuzzing techniques likely identified this issue by injecting anomalous video sequence parameters. Huawei’s video service, integral to many devices, becomes unresponsive, requiring restart. The vulnerability stems from code defects in video packet decoding routines. Attackers need no authentication, making it critical for exposed systems. The DoS condition persists until the service is manually restored or patched.
Platform: Huawei
