Huawei, DetailDescriptionIterator Failure Vulnerability, CVE-2025-54612 (MEDIUM)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-54612 vulnerability stems from a flaw in the `DetailDescriptionIterator` class within Huawei’s card management module. This iterator is responsible for traversing and processing data structures containing detailed card information. The failure occurs when the iterator encounters a malformed or specially crafted data sequence, leading to improper validation of internal pointers or loop conditions. This causes the iterator to access memory out of its intended bounds, either by reading beyond the allocated array or dereferencing an invalid pointer. The corruption may result in a segmentation fault, application crash, or the exposure of adjacent memory contents. The local attack vector (AV:L) with no privileges required (PR:N) suggests the flaw can be triggered by a local user sending malformed data to the module, potentially leading to a loss of confidentiality (C:L), integrity (I:L), and availability (A:L) for the affected function.
Platform: Huawei products
Version: Specific versions unknown
Vulnerability : Iterator Failure
Severity: Medium
date: 08/05/2025

Prediction: Expected Patch 10/15/2025

What Undercode Say:

Checking for module logs
grep -i "cardmgmt|DetailDescriptionIterator" /var/log/messages
Simulating service status check
systemctl status | grep -i huawei
Potential crash analysis command strings
gdb -ex run -ex bt --args /usr/bin/card_module
// Hypothetical vulnerable loop pattern
while (iterator->isValid()) {
detail = iterator->getNextDetail(); // May fail on bad data
process(detail); // Crash or memory leak occurs here
}

How Exploit:

Local user sends malformed card data to the vulnerable module process, causing the iterator to fail and crash the service or leak memory.

Protection from this CVE

Apply Huawei security update. Restrict local access. Implement input validation.

Impact:

Service instability, memory corruption, potential information disclosure.
