HPE Aruba Airwave, Command Injection, CVE-2025-37163 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

The vulnerability exists within the command-line interface (CLI) of the HPE Aruba Networking Airwave Platform. It stems from improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command (Command Injection). An authenticated attacker with access to the CLI can craft malicious input that is not sufficiently sanitized before being passed to a system shell for execution. By injecting shell metacharacters (e.g., semicolons, backticks, or pipe symbols) into a legitimate command parameter, the attacker can break out of the intended command context. This allows them to append and execute arbitrary operating system commands with the elevated privileges of the underlying Airwave process, typically running as root or a high-privilege service account. The exploitation does not require advanced access, only valid user credentials for the platform’s CLI, making it a significant privilege escalation path from authenticated user to full system compromise.
