How CVE-2025-1121 Works
The vulnerability exists in ChromeOS version 15786.48.2’s installer and recovery image handling. An attacker with physical access can craft a malicious recovery image that bypasses signature verification during the boot process. This allows execution of arbitrary code with root privileges during device recovery mode. The flaw stems from improper validation of recovery image metadata, enabling manipulation of partition tables. Enterprise enrollment protections can be bypassed by injecting modified policy files into the recovery flow before first boot.
