Go Standard Library, Race Condition, CVE-2025-47907 (High)

How CVE-2025-47907 Works

The vulnerability exists in the `database/sql` package’s `(Rows).Scan` method. When a database query is executed concurrently and its context is canceled, a race condition can occur. The issue arises because the internal `driver.Rows` connection is released back to the connection pool before the `Scan` operation is fully complete on the application side. If the same underlying database connection is reused by a different query immediately, the `Scan` function may read column data from this new, incorrect query into the destination variables provided for the original, canceled query. This leads to data corruption, as the application processes mismatched data, believing it to be the result of its initial request. The race window is narrow but exploitable under high concurrency, causing silent and potentially severe data integrity issues.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Go Standard Library
Version: < Go 1.22.14
Vulnerability: Race Condition
Severity: High
Date: 2025-03-04

Prediction: Patch 2025-03-18

What Undercode Say:

$ go vet -race ./...
$ go test -race ./database/sql
Exploit PoC snippet
rows, _ := db.QueryContext(cancelCtx, "SELECT...")
cancel()
rows.Next()
rows.Scan(&dest) // May scan data from a different, concurrent query.

How Exploit:

An attacker can repeatedly trigger and cancel specific database queries in a concurrent loop. By saturating the connection pool, they increase the probability that a canceled query’s connection is instantly reused for a different, attacker-controlled query (e.g., selecting admin credentials). The victim’s subsequent `Scan()` call then populates its variables with the attacker’s data, leading to privilege escalation or incorrect application state (like wrong feature flags in flagd).

Protection from this CVE:

Update Go immediately. Apply patch go1.22.14. Implement query timeouts. Avoid scanning after cancellation. Use connection isolation.

Impact:

Silent data corruption. Incorrect flag configuration. Privilege escalation potential. Integrity loss.
