How the CVE Works
The vulnerability exists in GitProxy’s push parser (parsePush.ts), which fails to properly validate multi-branch pushes. When a user pushes multiple branches simultaneously, only the first branch undergoes policy checks and approval, while subsequent branches bypass validation. This occurs because the parser processes only the first branch reference (refUpdates) and silently ignores the rest. Attackers or even legitimate users can exploit this by pushing an approved branch alongside an unapproved one containing malicious code or secrets. The fix enforces strict single-branch push validation, blocking any push containing multiple branch updates.
