FPDI, Denial of Service via Memory Exhaustion, CVE-2025-XXXX (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

The vulnerability in FPDI (Free PDF Document Importer) arises due to improper handling of specially crafted PDF files. When parsing malicious PDFs, the library fails to enforce memory limits, leading to uncontrolled memory consumption. An attacker can exploit this by submitting a small PDF containing recursive object references or deeply nested structures, forcing the parser into an infinite loop or excessive memory allocation. This results in an Out-of-Memory (OOM) condition, crashing the application and causing a Denial of Service (DoS).
