Feiyuxing VROS add_expmac-RCE Just Updated, CVE-2026-94138 (Medium) -DC-Oct2026-3274

Listen to this Post

CVE-2026-94138 is a critical security vulnerability affecting Chengdu Feiyuxing Technology Feiyu Star Routers.
The flaw specifically targets the web management interface of the affected firmware version.
It originates within the order processing mechanism handling device configurations and rules.
When users interact with specific administrative features, HTTP requests are sent to backend scripts.
The vulnerable component processes requests through the `/send_order.cgi` endpoint script.
Specifically, the parameter handling routine fails to sanitize inputs passed to the system.
An attacker can manipulate the `add_expmac` parameter to inject arbitrary shell commands.
The underlying application takes this input and passes it directly to the system shell.
Because input validation is absent, shell metacharacters are interpreted without restriction.
This design flaw enables remote code execution without requiring valid authentication credentials.
Attackers can craft malicious HTTP GET or POST requests to trigger the command execution.
Network packets reaching the router interface are parsed directly by the vulnerable binary.
Successful execution grants the attacker shell access with the privileges of the web server.
This compromises the entire integrity and confidentiality of the targeted networking hardware.
Embedded devices often run services with root privileges, amplifying the severity of the flaw.
Routine code audits of SOHO routers frequently uncover such legacy parameter handling errors.
Many manufacturers fail to implement robust argument escaping in custom CGI binaries.
Exploitation leaves minimal traces unless comprehensive network logging is active.
Administrators should inspect web server logs for unusual strings containing command delimiters.
Blocking unauthorized external requests to management ports mitigates immediate exposure.
The affected firmware version documented in disclosures is B-MB5E202-210322-r11656.
Vendor communication was established prior to publication, but response timelines varied.
Users are urged to apply official patches or restrict interface accessibility immediately.
Failing to secure the router exposes local network segments to complete takeover.
Understanding this mechanism is crucial for deploying effective monitoring and defenses.
