FediVuln-Publish handles the integration and publishing of vulnerability updates by interfacing with Vulnerability-Lookup endpoints.
With the release of version 6.3 of the primary Vulnerability-Lookup platform, the VLAI severity classification endpoint was updated to strictly enforce credential verification.
Previously, requests made to the classification endpoint relied on a hard-coded URL structure and lacked authentication headers, which could result in authorization failures or misrouted data in environments with strict access controls.
In release 1.5.1, the application logic was refactored to dynamically derive the correct endpoint URL directly from the configured `vulnerability_lookup_base_url` parameter rather than utilizing a static fallback.
Furthermore, the client now injects the securely stored `vulnerability_auth_token` into outgoing HTTP headers using the standard `X-API-KEY` field.
This ensures that all communication payloads carrying vulnerability classifications are properly authenticated by the receiving platform instance.
Error handling has also been enhanced to prevent transient network or authentication failures from disrupting the entire publishing status pipeline.
When a classification request fails or encounters an unauthenticated state, the system safely falls back to a score of N/A instead of dropping the entire status message.
These errors are cleanly captured and routed to the internal monitoring logs for administrative review.
This update maintains operational stability while aligning the client with modern security requirements of Vulnerability-Lookup deployments.

Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
import requests
target_url = "https://vulnerability-lookup.local/api/vlai/classify"
response = requests.post(target_url, json={"vulnerability": "CVE-2024-9474"})
print(response.status_code, response.text)
Protection: from this CVE
Upgrade FediVuln to version 1.5.1 or higher. Configure the `vulnerability_auth_token` and ensure `X-API-KEY` headers are correctly passed to all endpoint requests. Restrict base URL configurations to trusted internal networks.
Impact:
Unauthenticated access attempts could lead to rejected classification requests, dropped status updates, or potential exposure of severity scoring endpoints if upstream authentication enforcement is misconfigured.
