This vulnerability is a use-after-free flaw within the XML parser of Fade In. When the application processes a malicious `.xml` file, it can incorrectly manage heap memory for specific XML elements or attributes. The parser frees a memory block but later retains a pointer (a “dangling pointer”) to that location. When the program later uses this stale pointer to read or write data during subsequent parsing operations, it interacts with memory that may have been reallocated for other purposes. This corrupts the heap’s structure and application data. By carefully crafting XML content, an attacker can control this corruption to potentially execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user opening the file.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Fade In
Version: 4.2.0
Vulnerability: Use-After-Free
Severity: Critical
Date: 10/28/2025
Prediction: Patch Expected 01/2026
What Undercode Say:
Analytics:
`$ fadein –version`
`$ file exploit.xml`
`$ sha256sum benign_script.fadein`
Sample Malformed XML Structure:
<document> <element attribute="AAAAAAAA..."> </element> </document>
How Exploit:
Attacker crafts malicious XML.
Victim opens file with Fade In.
Parser frees then reuses memory.
Heap corruption leads to crash/code execution.
Protection from this CVE:
Update when patched.
Avoid untrusted `.xml` files.
Employ DEP/ASLR.
Impact:
Arbitrary code execution.
Application crash.
Complete system compromise.
