This update addresses a critical vulnerability found within the ecom-sec platform repository release changes. Specifically, the flaw exists due to insufficient validation and filtering mechanisms implemented in script parameters handling file uploads and data inputs. When an application fails to properly verify file extensions, magic bytes, or sanitize input data streams, malicious actors can exploit the vector to upload arbitrary code or web shells into publicly accessible directories. The mechanics rely on bypassing inadequate extension checks—such as swapping extensions or utilizing path traversal techniques—allowing an authenticated or unauthenticated attacker depending on permissions to execute system-level or application-level instructions. Consequently, this exposes the underlying server architecture, configuration files, and sensitive database entries to complete compromise. Remediation requires rigorous input sanitization, strict whitelisting of permitted file types, enforcing random storage naming conventions, and updating repository dependencies to the latest patched version.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: ecom-sec
Version: v0.1.0-v0.1.1
Vulnerability : Arbitrary File Upload
Severity: Medium
date: 2025-09-07
Prediction: 2025-09-14
What Undercode Say:
Bash commands and codes:
git clone https://github.com/Liohtml/ecom-sec.git cd ecom-sec git checkout v0.1.1
Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)
The attacker targets upload endpoints where validation is weak. By sending a crafted payload with a disguised file extension (e.g., changing a `.php` payload to .jpg), the user bypasses initial client-side or weak server-side checks. Once stored on the server in an accessible directory, the attacker navigates directly to the file via HTTP request to trigger execution and achieve code execution.
Protection: from this CVE
Ensure comprehensive server-side file type validation using magic bytes rather than relying solely on file extensions. Store uploaded content outside of the primary web root directory, implement strict access controls on upload folders, and apply the latest repository updates or patches provided by the maintainers.
Impact:
Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution, unauthorized access to sensitive customer data, full server compromise, potential data manipulation, and overall disruption of the ecom platform services.
