The CVE-2025-XXXX vulnerability in the Drupal CivicTheme design system is an instance of incorrect authorization, specifically allowing forceful browsing. The module fails to properly enforce access controls on certain pages or resources that are intended only for administrative or privileged users. This flaw resides in the access control logic, where certain routes lack sufficient checks to verify a user’s permissions. Consequently, an attacker can directly access restricted administrative pages or functionality by knowing or guessing the specific URL paths. This is achieved by crafting a simple HTTP GET request to the vulnerable endpoint without requiring authentication at the application level. The system does not validate if the current user has the required roles or permissions before granting access to the sensitive functionality, bypassing intended security restrictions. This allows for unauthorized viewing of content or configuration, potentially leading to information disclosure or further system compromise.
