How CVE-2026-59914 Works

CVE-2026-59914 is an Authentication Bypass by Spoofing vulnerability affecting Dell Display and Peripheral Manager (DDPM) on Windows systems. The core of this weakness lies in how DDPM validates the identity of its users and processes. By successfully spoofing a trusted identity or a legitimate process, a malicious actor can circumvent the software’s authentication mechanisms.
The vulnerability stems from the application’s failure to properly verify the source or integrity of certain communications or actions before granting access to its internal functions. An attacker with local access to the target system, even with low privileges, can exploit this flaw. The attack complexity is low, requiring no user interaction, which makes it an attractive vector for privilege escalation.

This could be achieved by manipulating named pipes, using specific Windows API calls to impersonate a trusted token, or by replacing legitimate DLLs with malicious ones that the vulnerable service loads without proper signature verification. Successful impersonation allows the attacker to execute code with the privileges of the DDPM service, which typically runs with high integrity levels, leading to a complete system takeover.

Protection:

Update Immediately: The most effective mitigation is to update Dell Display and Peripheral Manager to version `2.3.0.17` or later.
Application Control: Implement application whitelisting solutions (e.g., Windows Defender Application Control) to prevent unauthorized binaries from executing, which can limit the impact of arbitrary code execution.
Principle of Least Privilege: Restrict local user privileges where possible to limit the initial access an attacker can gain.
Monitor for Anomalies: Monitor system logs for unusual process creation or service interactions that could indicate an exploitation attempt.

Impact:
