How the CVE Works
The vulnerability exists in the `/dbsrv.asp` component of the D-Link DI-7001 MINI router, specifically within an unidentified function. This function insecurely handles the ‘str’ argument passed to it without proper bounds checking. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can send an excessively long string as the ‘str’ parameter. When this oversized input is processed by the vulnerable function, it overflows the fixed-size memory buffer allocated for it on the stack. This buffer overflow can corrupt adjacent memory structures, potentially allowing the attacker to hijack the execution flow of the program. By carefully crafting the payload within the ‘str’ argument, it is possible to overwrite the function’s return address, leading to arbitrary code execution on the device with root privileges. The exploit is network-reachable and has been publicly disclosed, increasing its immediate danger.

What Undercode Say:
curl -X POST http://<TARGET_IP>/dbsrv.asp -d "str=$(python -c 'print("A"1000)')"
include <stdio.h>
include <string.h>
// Simulated vulnerable function
void vulnerable_function(char str) {
char buffer[bash];
strcpy(buffer, str); // No bounds check
}
int main(int argc, char argv[]) {
vulnerable_function(argv[bash]);
return 0;
}
