How the CVE Works
Apache Struts Extras before version 2 contains an improper output neutralization vulnerability in its logging mechanism when using LookupDispatchAction. Attackers can inject malicious input that gets written to application logs without proper sanitization. This allows log file manipulation, where crafted input can forge fake log entries or disrupt log parsing tools. Since the component is retired, no official patch will be released, leaving systems vulnerable to log poisoning and potential obfuscation of malicious activity.
