Apache HTTP Server, Memory Release Vulnerability, CVE-2025-53020 (Critical)

Listen to this Post

How the CVE Works

CVE-2025-53020 is a Late Release of Memory after Effective Lifetime vulnerability in Apache HTTP Server (versions 2.4.17 to 2.4.63). The flaw occurs when the server fails to properly deallocate memory after processing certain HTTP requests, leading to memory leaks. Attackers can exploit this by sending crafted requests, causing prolonged resource exhaustion and potential denial-of-service (DoS). The vulnerability stems from improper handling of connection pools, where memory references remain active beyond their intended lifecycle.
