Advantech WebAccess/VPN, SQL Injection, CVE-2025-34243 (MEDIUM)

Listen to this Post

The CVE-2025-34243 vulnerability exists in Advantech WebAccess/VPN versions before 1.1.5. It is a SQL injection flaw in the `AjaxFwRulesController.ajaxNetworkFwRulesAction()` function. This function handles AJAX requests for firewall rules management. An authenticated user with low privileges, such as an observer role, can exploit this vulnerability. The injection point is in the datatable search parameters sent via HTTP POST requests. These parameters are not properly sanitized before being concatenated into SQL queries. Specifically, user-controlled input from search fields is directly embedded into the SQL statement without using prepared statements or parameterized queries. This allows attackers to craft malicious search strings containing SQL code. For example, input like `’ OR ‘1’=’1` could be used to manipulate the query logic. The vulnerable code path executes the tainted SQL against the application’s database. Successful exploitation leads to information disclosure, where an attacker can read sensitive data from the database. This may include configuration details, user credentials, or other proprietary information. The attack requires authentication but only low privileges, increasing its risk. The vulnerability leverages the lack of input validation in the search functionality. It bypasses any client-side checks due to server-side processing flaws. The SQL injection is blind or error-based, depending on the application’s response handling. The exploit does not require advanced tools; it can be performed through standard web requests. This vulnerability highlights common security missteps in web application development. It underscores the importance of implementing proper input sanitization and using parameterized queries to prevent SQL injection attacks.
Platform: Advantech WebAccess VPN
Version: Prior to 1.1.5
Vulnerability: SQL injection
