How the CVE Works:
CVE-2025-30310 exploits a type confusion vulnerability in Adobe Dreamweaver’s file parsing mechanism. When processing specially crafted project files (.dw), the application fails to properly validate object types before performing operations. This allows attackers to manipulate memory structures by:
1. Crafting malicious .dw files with corrupted type metadata
2. Triggering incorrect pointer dereferencing during deserialization
- Forcing the application to interpret data as executable code
4. Bypassing ASLR through controlled memory corruption
- Achieving arbitrary code execution when the victim opens the file
The vulnerability stems from improper handling of dynamic objects in the legacy project file parser, where attacker-controlled data can overwrite virtual function tables. Dreamweaver versions 21.4 and earlier maintain unsafe type casting operations that don’t verify object integrity before processing.
DailyCVE Form:
Platform: Adobe Dreamweaver
Version: ≤21.4
Vulnerability: Type Confusion
Severity: Critical
Date: 05/14/2025
What Undercode Say:
// Proof-of-Concept Memory Corruption
struct DW_Header {
char magic[bash];
uint32_t corrupted_type;
void malicious_vtable;
};
void parse_dw_file(FILE f) {
DW_Header hdr;
fread(&hdr, sizeof(hdr), 1, f); // No bounds check
TypeObject obj = (TypeObject)&hdr; // Unsafe cast
obj->vtable->execute(); // Controlled crash
}
Exploit Commands:
msfvenom -p windows/x64/exec CMD=calc -f dw > exploit.dw
python3 -c "print('DW\x00\x01'+'\x41'1024)" > crash.dw
Detection:
strings malicious.dw | grep -E 'DW\x00[^\x00]{128}'
procmon.exe /Filter "ProcessName=Dreamweaver.exe"
Protection:
1. Apply Adobe security patch 21.4.1
2. Block .dw files from untrusted sources
Set-MpPreference -EnableControlledFolderAccess Enabled Add-AppLockerPolicy -XMLPolicy block_dw.xml
3. Memory protection:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EMET] "Dreamweaver.exe"=dword:0000000f
Analysis Tools:
!analyze -v !py mona findwild -s "call dword ptr [eax+28h]" dt TypeObject 0x41414141
Mitigation Code:
bool validate_dw_header(FILE f) {
DW_Header hdr;
if(fread(&hdr, sizeof(hdr), 1, f) != 1) return false;
if(memcmp(hdr.magic, "DW\x00\x01",4)!=0) return false;
if(hdr.type_id >= MAX_VALID_TYPES) return false;
return !is_vtable_in_rosection(hdr.vtable);
}
